Shortly after I started photographing newborns, I knew I wanted a studio. Consistent light, plenty of space, a home for all my props, not having to pack/unpack/pack/unpack every session…. it seemed like the way to go. Beyond the conveniences of a permanent space, I knew it would help me grow my business and improve my work. For about a year, I kept my eyes and ears open, hoping a shared space in an established studio would open up. It never did. Eventually I started looking for a small space to rent on my own and was sold the minute I saw this spot. Downtown Northville is the perfect home for my business – it’s family friendly, quaint, and centrally located for my client base. I moved into my studio in August and have loved every minute of shooting there. It has gorgeous natural light, thanks to a wall of south facing windows. I primarily photograph newborns and babies up to 1 year in this space, and occasionally maternity, older kids and families.
The studio is at 107 E. Main Street, right in the heart of downtown Northville. I’m on the second floor, above Salvatore Prescott & Porter Law Firm.
You’ll enter to a small sitting area. I love these gorgeous Organic Bloom frames, featuring some of my littlest clients.
Beyond this is the studio room.
Prior to every newborn session, I send the parents a questionnaire to get an idea of the style of props that will work well for them. I use this to prepare some setups ahead of time, although I do encourage mom & dad to pick out things they like from my collection, if they want. I’m also happy to select all the props if parents would rather me do so. I maintain a collection of hats, pants, headbands, wraps, blankets, quilts, baskets, buckets, and bowls available for clients to choose from, all selected specifically for use with newborns.
Album samples are available at the studio. Clients are welcome to compare sizes and styles.
I look forward to seeing you in the studio soon!
